Doing the Right Thing

While my husband and I were enjoying Yosemite this past weekend, Governor Mike Huckabee shared his decision NOT to run in the 2012 presidential election. I was sad when I first heard the news, as he is one politician that I do admire. I had hoped he could help our nation return to its true north, which I believe will give us the best chance to recover our God-given prosperity.

As I read his complete explanation, in which he gave his reasons for that decision, my sadness changed to admiration once again. I was also encouraged and challenged to re-evaluate the way I, and so many other Americans, make important decisions.

So often my emotions and circumstances dictate my choices. Even though I have been taught to pray and “wait on the Lord”; it takes a lot of discipline to do that when the rubber actually hits the road. Instead of giving into pressure to make a quick decision based on popular opinion, Gov. Huckabee spent time alone reflecting on what would be the right thing according to God’s will for his individual life.

James 3:17 tells us that one of the main characteristics of Godly wisdom is Peace.

“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy.”

It sounds as if Gov. Huckabee has found peace in his heart before God in this decision, so as a vocal supporter I just wanted to share my thoughts about this.

I will continue to pray that our God, YHWH will have mercy on America to raise up the right leader, according to His Plan. A president who will govern our nation righteously based on the same ethics upon which America was originally founded. I will also be praying that whatever the Lord has planned for Gov. Huckabee , it will bless him, his family, and the nation he loves.

Psalms 46:10  Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.

Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God-what is good and well-pleasing and perfect.

1 Thessalonians 5:18  In everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
